Fertility Counselling for Couples and Individuals | Online Across Ontario

Decisions to have children, infertility and navigating different pathways of family building can deeply impact our romantic relationships. These things can bring a heaviness to conversations about the future, leaving us feeling lonely and uncertain about what comes next.

The emotional weight of infertility

Infertility is one of the most emotionally tender journeys, and is rarely what anyone imagines. It can impact every aspect of life: relationships with friends and family, emotional and sexual connection with your partner, and your own sense of self and wellbeing. This is well documented, a 2025 systematic review describes infertility-related stress as reducing marital intimacy and self-esteem, and decreasing sexual contact between partners.

As someone who has personally navigated infertility and IVF treatment, I bring lived experience of its impact on relationships with friends, family, and partners, and understand how much it matters to have a space where you can process the grief, pain, isolation, and hope that comes with this tender journey.

How Therapy Can Help

With specialized training from the American Society of Reproductive Medicine I work with couples and individuals struggling with infertility, whether it be trying to conceive, navigating IVF treatments, and processing loss. Therapy provides a space to discuss the most difficult emotions and helps strengthen your relationship with yourself and those you love.

The research here is encouraging. A systematic review of 14 trials involving 550 patients found that counselling consistently improved marital intimacy among couples experiencing infertility, across a range of approaches — including emotionally focused couple therapy, one of the models I draw on.
